A precursor to the FAA’s ERAM program was ECG, the En Route Communications Gateway, which modernized interfacility communications processing at the 20 ARTCCs. ECG subsequently required several systemic changes in order to interoperate with ERAM, which necessitated training for technical personnel in new and changed maintenance and control procedures for ECG. PDRI (PTI) developed several hours of CBT for FAA technical personnel in the original ECG deployment, and was hired to produce training for the update. The recommended intervention was an “electronic briefing” style of CBT (1 hr.) delivered to all 20 sites on CD-R. This product did not require integration with the FAA LMS, it was designed to run on any PC with speakers (for the narration). PDRI also teamed with prime contractor Lockheed Martin to develop an integrated one-week instructor-led course in the management and maintenance of ECG for ERAM. Both CBT and ILT had to meet the FAA’s strict ISD standard (FAA-STD-028c), which has requirements from needs analysis through design, delivery, and evaluation of effectiveness.
